Have you Been to New Holland's Lickity Split?

Many New Holland residents are familiar with Lickity Split, a favorite family-friendly ice cream parlor and sandwich shop set in a historic downtown New Holland.

Lickity Split is such a uniting force in our community and one of the small businesses that make New Holland colorful and unique. If you live in the area and haven't been, you're truly missing out on something special and sweet!

The Atmosphere

Lickity Split's atmosphere can be described as charming, nostalgic, and comforting like stepping into the town's family dining room.

There's a huge yet comfy red booth seating, newspaper clippings set underneath the glass tabletops, and walls lined with New Holland native treasures, including the work of local artists and glassware from back in the day.

The Ice Cream

In August of 2014, USA Today named Lickity Split one of their 10 Best Stone-cold Ice Cream Shops in the Country! Alongside this small town gem we know and love, the list highlighted a creamery in Brooklyn, a century-old candy shop in Chicago, and a special ice cream dish at the Disney Beach Club Resort in Florida.

Ice Cream New Holland PALickity Split's ice cream lineup features decadent and creative signature sundaes, such as their salted caramel brownie sundae. This one lodges full-bodied brownie chunks, crushed pretzels, and a swirl of caramel in vanilla ice cream and gets topped off with a dusting of sea salt crystals-it's the ideal salty-sweet satisfier.

In addition to sundaes, Lickity also whips up rich, old-fashioned ice cream floats and milkshakes with your favorite mix-ins. There's even a seven-scoop sundae with tantalizing toppings like cherries, bananas, and chocolate shavings for the whole family to share.

The Stuffed Pretzel Melt

The savory half of Lickity Split's operations makes homemade soups, salads, and sandwiches that are the definition of comfort food with a twist. One menu item has become a bit of a New Holland legend: the stuffed pretzel melt.

Choose your pretzel filling ham and cheese, cheese steak, or pork BBQ-and your filling of choice gets encased and baked into a local, Amish-made soft pretzel.

Other standouts on the Lickity Split lunch and dinner menu include mouthwatering loaded nachos, tasty and fresh wraps, and deliciously elevated grilled cheeses.

The Service

The service at Lickity Split lives up to its name; it's speedy, welcoming, and instantly makes you feel at home. Owners Mitch and Gina have gone above and beyond in making Lickity Split a place where outstanding food and service coexist. The positive community vibe is truly something to celebrate.

Head over to Lickity Split's Facebook page and give them a thumbs up to stay up to date on the latest shop happenings and stop by their spot in New Holland at 209 East Main Street for lunch, dinner, ice cream, and great company.

How to choose the best vehicle for your new driving teen?

There are so many cars and so many "safe car advisors" when it comes to young drivers. New drivers feel an immediate sense of independence with their first car, but it also comes with a ton of responsibility and expenses. The TOP SAFTEY PICK may not be in the budget for your teen?s vehicle. In a recent IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) national phone survey conducted on parents of teen drivers, 83 percent of parents bought their teenagers used cars that met the important safety criteria for teen drivers. These prices can range from $2000 to $20,000 to get the best safety for the money when purchasing a new teen driver a vehicle.

Safety for teens is important and the guidelines include many factors for the young drivers, here are a few key rules:

  • Young drivers should stay away from vehicles with "high horsepower." They can be easily tempted to test the limits of speed or not know how fast they are really going when on the highway.
  • Heavier and larger vehicles are much safer to protect your teen in a crash. HDLI (Highway Loss Data Institute) analysis of car insurance data shows that teens are less likely to crash a larger and heavier vehicle.
  • Safety ratings are key for teens?they should have four to five stars from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) along with a minimum of "good" ratings in the IIHS overlap front, side and head restraint tests.
  • ECS (Electronic Safety Control) is an important feature for your teen?s vehicle to help the new driver maintain control of the vehicle on curves and slippery roads, reducing the risk at levels comparable to safety seatbelts.
  • A backup camera is also a useful tool that can help avoid a fender bender. Most new and used cars are equip with back up cameras to aid in parking and avoiding pedestrians when backing up.
  • One of the best tips is simple?read the reviews of all of the cars you are interested in for your teen and ask your car sales representative for suggestions on new and used vehicles for the young driver.

Hopefully these tips can help you purchase a safe and affordable vehicle for your new teen driver. If you have any questions you can contact us at New Holland Auto Group.
