Engine Options

Jeep Cherokee EngineThe Cherokee has three engine options to choose from, each offering plenty of horsepower and torque for any off-roading challenges you might face.

Under the hood of the Cherokee, the standard engine is a 2.4L Tigershark® Multiair® 2 engine that puts out 180 horsepower and 171 lb-ft of torque. You’ll also get great fuel economy out of this engine with an EPA-estimated 22 city/31 highway MPG.

One engine option that gives you more horsepower and torque is the available 2.0L Turbo engine. With 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, you can get yourself where you need to go and then some. This engine offers the most torque of the three.

For the most horsepower of all three engines, you’ll want the available 3.2L Pentastar® V6 engine, which has an impressive 271 horsepower and 239 lb-ft of torque. If you’re planning on towing ATVs or a midsized trailer, its maximum towing capacity of 4,500 pounds is sure to handle it.

Off-Road Capabilities

Jeep Cherokee Off RoadWith the Jeep Cherokee, off-roading is a breeze. There are three available 4x4 drive systems to work with, and which one you choose depends on how much off-roading you plan to do.

The first option is Jeep Active Drive 4x4 system. This system automatically activates four-wheel drive mode when the Cherokee detects unpredictable roads or slippage.

The second option is the Jeep Active Drive II 4x4 system. This version is designed for outdoor adventures, featuring two-speed power transfers for torque management and 4-Low mode. If you’re at low speeds or towing, it can also lock the front and rear driveshafts.

Your last choice is the Jeep Active Drive Lock 4x4 system, which is available on the Trailhawk trim. It has a rear locker for extra traction when off-roading or in Rock Mode, if you opt for the available Selec-Terrain® Traction Management System. This 4x4 system is also a good choice for neutral modes or when you need low-speed traction.

Tech to Lend a Hand

The Cherokee offers plenty of tech to lend a hand while you’re off-roading. One such technology is the Off-Road Pages. These pages are a part of the available Uconnect® 4C NAV infotainment system, which also comes with an 8.4-inch touchscreen. These pages let you keep an eye on wheel articulation, transmission temperature, and suspension height.

In addition to this, the available 4G LITE Wi-Fi Hotspot built into the Cherokee can keep you connected while you’re exploring the wild. You can check in with family, consult a map, and more.
