Ram 2500 vs Silverado 2500: Engine Power

2019 Ram 2500 2019 Ram 2500 2019 Ram 2500

Each offering durable gasoline and diesel engine options, the 2019 Ram 2500 and 2019 Chevy Silverado 2500 offer ample power for your toughest jobs.

You’ll find standard V8 engines aboard both trucks with the 6.4L HEMI® V8 engine in the Ram 2500 and the 6.0L Vortec® V8 engine aboard the Chevy Silverado 2500. The Ram 2500 delivers 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque, while the Silverado 2500 trails these outputs slightly at 360 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque.

Incredible turbo-diesel engines are also available from both makes, manufactured by leading names in the diesel realm (the Ram model’s 6.7L engine is by Cummins®, and the Chevy model’s 6.6L engine is made by Duramax®).

Heavy-Duty Towing & Payload

Ram 2500 SpecsWhen it comes to comparing their max towing clouts, the Ram 2500 and Silverado 2500 are head to head. Both of their turbodiesel engines provide some impressive capabilities to help you take on any jobs thrown your way.

Drivers will be working with quite a lot of muscle with the Ram 2500, which uses its 6.7L Cummins® Turbo Diesel I6 engine to tow up to 19,780 pounds. You’ll have more than enough strength to haul all the cargo you need whether it’s for a vacation or for that big job on your plate.

Unfortunately, we just don’t find that much max towing capacity aboard the Chevy Silverado 2500. Using the available 6.6L Duramax® Turbo-Diesel V8 engine, this truck can achieve a max conventional towing capacity of up to 14,500 pounds. While this vehicle offers a solid amount of muscle, you won’t be able to haul as easily as you would with the Ram 2500.

Ram vs Chevy: Smart Truck Technology

What’s more, these heavy-duty pickup trucks offer some of today’s most sought-after cabin technology that can help you make short work of your daily to-do list.

Dress the dash with a tech-savvy color infotainment screen running Ram Uconnect® or Chevy MyLink, two systems that have received ample praise for their ease of use.

You’ll have a much greater time with the infotainment system aboard the Ram 2500, though, thanks to its available 12-inch screen. When you drive the Chevy Silverado 2500, you’ll only have up to an 8-inch touchscreen to work with.
