Jeep Cherokee Dashboard Light Guide

2019 Cherokee Dashboard New Holland CDJR

If there's a universal theme among cars on the road today, it's that every single one of them has dashboard indicator lights. These lights go on all at once when you start up the car, and they're supposed to shut off after a few seconds. If they fail to do so and one or more stays on, it means you've got a problem. Knowing exactly what a dash light means can be tricky if you don't have a quick reference. The meanings can be buried in your owner's manual and aren't always easy to find.

That's why for our New Holland, Reading, and Lancaster customers, New Holland Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram is happy to provide a quick reference to the most important warnings you might see. Keep this complete 2017 Jeep Cherokee dashboard light guide handy so you can diagnose problems with your car at a glance and arrange for any needed repairs.

Airbag Indicator Light

If you see a light that looks like the profile of a seated person, and there's a filled circle in front of them, this is a warning that there's a problem with your airbag systems. Should you get into an accident, they may not deploy. This is a safety issue and should be checked out by a dealer as soon as possible.

Brake Indicator Light

If you see the word BRAKE in all capital letters, this could indicate any number of issues with your brake system, from fluid levels or pressure to issues with your rotors. Braking is vital to your safety, obviously, so this isn't something you should ignore.

Oil Pressure Light

If you see a picture of an oil can, this is an indication that your oil pressure is low. You'll likely also hear a chime sound when it turns on. You should immediately pull over, shut off your car, and not drive it until it can be examined and repaired.

Engine Temperature Light

A picture of a red thermometer that has two wavy lines beneath it indicates that your engine is running hot and in danger of overheating. Again, you'll hear a chime along with this light. Pull over and turn off your car, at least until it cools down. Get it checked out as soon as possible, as an overheated engine can cause permanent damage to your car.

Electrical Systems Warning

If you see a warning light that looks like a battery, there's some issue with your electrical systems, specifically the charging system. Your battery isn't holding a charge or isn't recharging. When this happens, turn off all nonessential features of your car, including A/C, stereo, and dome lights, and get it to a service center right away.
