Jeep Cherokee vs Honda CR-V

If you’re in the market for a crossover SUV, there are a lot of things to consider. You want utility and performance, of course, but you may also want some of the best creature comforts available for a modern car.

Jeep Cherokee vs Honda CR-VFor drivers in New Holland, Lancaster, and Reading, we’ve placed two of the most popular and well-equipped options, the 2018 Jeep Cherokee and the 2018 Honda CR-V, side by side, so you can compare all their key features and capabilities.

Performance and Capability

The base model for the 2018 Jeep Cherokee extracts power from a 2.4L four-cylinder engine rated for 184 horsepower and 171 lb-ft of torque. For more performance, buyers can opt for the 3.2L V6 rated for a strong 271 horsepower and 239 lb-ft of torque. Both engines shuttle power to the front wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission. Though it’s a sophisticated transmission that includes a few overdrive gears, its low gears—for a strong take-off—and its several mid-range gears channel the engine’s power effectively and seamlessly.

Properly equipped, the Cherokee is capable of towing 4,500 pounds. In addition, its available all-wheel-drive system includes Active Drive I, Active Drive II or Selec-Terrain®, all of which adapt the Cherokee to its rugged surroundings to varying degrees and allow it to blaze through snow, mud, or sand, as well as crawl over rocks or climb steep hills.

The 2018 Honda CR-V offers one of two engines. The base engine is an uninspired 2.4L inline-four rated for 184 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque. The other option is a 1.5L turbocharged inline-four rated for 190 horsepower and 170 lb-ft of torque. Both engines use a Continuously Variable Transmission to send power to the front wheel, or all four as an option.

Though the CR-V has a little more power in its base model, it’s only for acceleration. The CR-V is not equipped for towing, and its all-wheel-drive system is only suitable for inclement weather.

Features

Jeep Cherokee vs Honda CR-VThe 2018 Jeep Cherokee is remarkably well-equipped at all five trim levels. High-quality cloth upholstery, power accessories, a rearview camera, keyless entry, all-season tires, Bluetooth®, and a 5-inch touchscreen audio system are all standard at the base level, with available options such as heated seating, a heated steering wheel, and satellite radio, as well as one of the best infotainment systems on the market.

The 2018 Honda CR-V includes automatic climate control, a four-speaker audio system, a rearview camera, power accessories, keyless entry, and Bluetooth® as standard features. If you’re looking for more advanced features, such as infotainment, heated seats, or an upgraded sound system, you’ll have to spring for a higher trim level.
