The Equinox’s only engine is a turbocharged 1.5L 4-cylinder engine with 170 horsepower. It comes standard with a 6-speed automatic transmission. By comparison, the 2022 Compass has a standard 2.4L inline 4-cylinder engine with 177 horsepower and a standard 6-speed manual transmission.

Both cars handle well and offer smooth rides on city streets. If you want to go off-road driving, though, check out the Jeep Compass Trailhawk trim. This trim is specifically designed with the unique challenges of off-road driving in mind. The Jeep Compass Trailhawk has a standard Selec-Terrain^® Traction Management System, which adapts your driving to off-road conditions.

Unfortunately, the Chevy Equinox isn’t as well designed for off-roading, leaving it without a similar water-fording feature.

Compass vs Equinox: Interior and Cargo Space

Both the Compass and the Equinox seat a maximum of five people in two rows of seats. They also offer plenty of legroom in both rows. Cloth seats are standard, although you can upgrade to leather seats.

The cargo space setup is one significant difference in the 2022 Jeep Compass vs. 2022 Chevy Equinox. The Compass provides a maximum 59.8 cubic feet, while the Equinox offers slightly more space with a maximum 63.9 cubic feet. The Compass, however, has a fold-down front-passenger seat that makes it easier to transport longer items, such as paintings or a flat-screen TV. The Equinox does not have this option.
