Ram 1500 vs Chevy Silverado 1500

2019 Ram 1500 vs 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500

There are many capable pickups on today’s market, which can make it difficult to choose the best truck for your needs. Two top-selling models, the 2019 Ram 1500 and the 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500, have a lot to offer truck buyers, but they do have some important differences.

Drivers in New Holland, Lancaster, and Reading can find out the main differences between the 2019 Ram 1500 and the 2019 Chevy Silverado in this Ram truck comparison.

Power and Handling

2019 Ram 1500 Red OffroadThe 2019 Ram 1500 can be outfitted with one of three engines. The standard engine is a 350-horsepower 3.6L Pentasar® V6 engine rated for 269 lb-ft of torque. The next is the 5.7L HEMI® V8 engine, supplying 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque.

The most powerful engine in the lineup is a 395-horsepower 5.7L HEMI® V8 with eTorque Mild Hybrid System. This engine produces an incredible 410 lb-ft of torque.

Each Ram engine variant transfers power to either the rear or four wheels through an exclusive 8-speed automatic transmission that uses thermal control for consistency and efficiency. Depending on the configuration and equipment, the Ram 1500 can tow up to 12,750 pounds.

The 2019 Chevy Silverado also offers several engine variants. The standard engine is a 285-horsepower 4.3L V6 rated for 305 lb-ft of torque, but a 355-horsepower 5.3L V8 rated for 383 lb-ft of torque is available. Either engine can be paired with a 6- or 8-speed automatic transmission.

The top option is a 420-horsepower 6.2L V8 engine rated for 460 lb-ft of torque, which is exclusively fitted to the 8-speed automatic transmission. This engine can be equipped to tow up to 12,500 pounds, depending on the configuration.

The Silverado offers a slightly less towing capacity, is not nearly as maneuverable as the 2019 Ram, and doesn’t offer the same strong torque in the low gear ranges. What this translates to is the Silverado struggles with the weight of the tow and is more difficult to drive with confidence or composure, compared to the lighter, more car-like handling of the Ram, even with a trailer attached.

2019 Ram 1500 vs Chevy Silverado 1500 Features

One of the 2019 Ram 1500’s greatest strength is its versatility. There are three total trim levels for the Ram as well as several individual options and cab and bed configurations. Quad and Crew cabs are available, as well as a 5-foot, 7-inch and 6-foot, 4-inch beds.

The Ram comes standard with automatic headlights, a 4-way adjustable driver seat, air conditioning, and a 6-speaker sound system with a 5-inch touchscreen display. It can be outfitted with the RamBox® Cargo Management System, hidden storage bins, Apple CarPlay™ smartphone integration, Uconnect® 4C Navigation, and a 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system, among other features.

The 2019 Silverado 1500 is available in similar configurations, though they are not as detailed at the 1500. It also includes many features standard, though no automatic headlights, air conditioning, and no innovative cargo storage options are available.
