Ram 3500 Dashboard Light Guide
The Ram 3500 is a mighty hauling machine that works hard to tow cars, trailers, boats, and equipment. Although it is powerful, the Ram 3500 does need a tune-up from time to time. Fortunately, it is equipped with an array of dashboard lights and symbols to signal to you what it needs.
At New Holland Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, we have the expertise to identify what different dashboard lights mean and what to do about them. We have created this light guide to help residents of New Holland, Lancaster, and Reading, PA, better understand their Ram 3500.

Red Warning Lights
One of the types of lights you will see on your Ram’s dashboard is a warning light. This kind of light indicates a problem that needs to be addressed immediately.
Certain warning lights are crucial reminders that can affect your safety. For instance, the Seat Belt Reminder Warning Light is illuminated in red and looks like a seated person wearing a seat belt. It turns on when the driver’s or front passenger’s seat belt is unbuckled while driving.
Another red warning light that you might notice is the Engine Coolant Temperature Light. This light comes on when the engine is overheating. Not heeding this warning can result in engine damage if not taken care of immediately.
Yellow Dashboard Lights
Lights illuminated in yellow can either be a warning or an indicator in the Ram 3500. However, unlike red warning lights, these lights indicate an issue that needs to be addressed but not immediately. They also signal that a particular function is either turned on or off, such as:
- TOW/HAUL Indicator Light is indicated by the words TOW/HAUL. It lights up when the TOW/HAUL mode is turned on.
- Forward Collision Warning (FCW) indicator light (if equipped) alerts you of an imminent collision. This indicator light turns on to indicate that Forward Collision Warning is off. This is meant to keep you aware that you have deactivated this important safety feature.
White, Green, and Blue Indicator Lights
Indicator lights in the Ram 3500 inform the driver of the system or feature they have activated. These can be yellow, green, white, or blue.
Some symbols that you will see illuminated are the Turn Signal Indicator Lights. These are shown as either left- or right-pointing flashing arrows. They light up when you activate the multifunction lever to signal to other drivers the direction in which you are turning.
One example of a white indicator light is the Cruise Control Ready Indicator Light. This feature indicates that the cruise control system has been activated but you need to set the speed at which you want to cruise. Once you set the speed, it will change to the green Cruise Control Set indicator light—if equipped.
These two look similar to each other on the dashboard: a speedometer. However, the Cruise Control Set indicator light has an arrow pointing to the speedometer symbol whereas the Cruise Control Ready indicator light does not.
The blue light is reserved only for the high beam indicator light. It is activated when you push the multifunction lever forward and turn on the high beams.
